San Pietro

The Farm

Azienda Agricola San Pietro includes 6.6 hectares of vineyards planted in the early 2000s and last in 2017, divided into four zones in the area of the village of San Pietro a Marcigliano and distinguished by name (La Favorita, Biagio, Ciomei and Carruba), where the grapes of Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet and Vermentino grow and from which the entire wine production is obtained. In the farm there are also 12 hectares of olive grove, made up in varying degrees of the olive tree varieties Frantoiano, Moraiolo, Leccino and Pendolino , from which the precious and renowned extra virgin olive oil from the Lucca hills is obtained.
The lands, located at 150-200 m asl, overlook the plain of Lucca and are always "kissed by the sun", being exposed to the south. On clear days, especially in autumn and winter, both from the vineyards and from the cellar, you can enjoy a splendid view of the province of Lucca, from the borders with the Pistoia area to the Pisan mountains, beyond which you can sometimes see the sea.

The Vineyards

The soil is mainly clayey on all the cultivated plots  with the presence of medium-large skeletons. The autumn-winter season of Lucca is known to be rainy but thanks to the hilly position all the lands of the company allow rainwater to flow downstream very well and there are no stagnations. Summers tend to be sunny and hot, giving grapes a good sugar content and an excellent acidity, qualities that are reflected in very fresh, full-bodied and elegant wines.

From 2014 to 2020 the company is run by Dr. Maria Teresa, who wanted to keep the work started by her grandfather and carried on by her father, giving a touch of modernity to the cellar and the products: from the choice of a winemaker expert on organic and sustainable wines, to the introduction of low-impact winemaking machinery and products capable of enhancing the quality of the wines, to the fresh and contemporary label design taking up the original design of 1867. Today Maria Teresa still follows the developments after a break for motherhood.
